Gloucestershire is located at a ‘cross-roads’ between Wales, London, the Midlands and the South West.

PEOPLE FACTS

  • 693,500 people live in Gloucestershire ( 289,200 males and 300,000 females).
  • 373,500 people in Gloucestershire are of working age.
  • 310,000 people in Gloucestershire are in employment.
  • 17,900 people in Gloucestershire are unemployed.
  • 27,800 people have no qualifications at all, which means a lot of competition for lower skilled/entry level jobs. On the other hand, 209,000 people (around 57% of the population in Gloucestershire) have NVQ 3 or higher qualifications, which is above the UK average. 

Around half the people working in Gloucestershire work in either Cheltenham or Gloucester City. Other places for employment include Stroud, Cirencester, Tewkesbury, Coleford and Lydney.
